With the Hockey team’s 2018-’19 season coming to a close after a loss to St. Ignatius in the State Semi-finals down in Columbus, it was sure to bring with it a lot of memorable moments. The hockey team received a send-off from all of Sylvania Schools, starting right here at Northview. The team received praise and words of motivation to send them on their way.
The team then made their way through the district where they stopped at a few schools before embarking on their journey to Columbus.
The excitement of making it to the State tournament extended far beyond just playing hockey. As soon as the team arrived they were given an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Nationwide Arena where their semi-finals would take place.
Friday morning brought it’s fair share of pre-game traditions. The team had breakfast together before doing a high paced and intensive team stretch to prepare them for the game ahead. The game, although it did not go as planned, did well to show the emotions that the team carried on their backs. As soon as the final buzzer went off, the seniors erupted into a ball of emotions, made evident by their tears, fits of anger, and hugs.
Senior Tyler Frederick, a starting defensemen for the team, said, “There are no words to describe it. Losing that game and hearing that buzzer was one of the most intense, heart wrenching moments of my life. Above all it was so hard to watch my brothers cry. Even though the game did not go the way we wanted, the experience is something I wouldn’t trade for the world”.
Despite the results of the game on March 8 in Nationwide Arena, the experience the boys had down in Columbus was one for the books.
