10 Things You Didn’t Know About NV

Many of you have been going to Northview for awhile now, ranging from incoming freshmen to the graduating seniors. But how well do you really know NV? Here are 10 little known facts about NV!

  1. Northview has a total of seven bands. There’s Jazz Band, Jazz Cats, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Pep Band.
  2. The Student Prints (NV’s newspaper) and The Wyandotte (the Yearbook) have been around for 92 years – as the school has transitioned from Burnham to Sylvania to Northview High School.
  3. Upperclassmen used to tell other students that there was a pool on the roof.
  4. Northview was the second high school building in Sylvania (after Burnham). NV was established in 1960. Burnham was located where Maplewood is now.
  5. Within the last five years, Northview graduate’s have been accepted to Yale and Princeton University.
  6. Alden Hirschfeld, an alumni of the NV Hockey program and the team captain in 2005-’06, is now a Toledo Walleye player.
  7. A graduate of Northview, Becky Minger, was named Miss Ohio in 2010.
  8. Another graduate, Oliver Cooper, is an actor known for his role in the movie Project X.
  9. In the past, when smoking was very common, Northview actually had a smoking area and a smoking lounge for the staff.
  10. A Sylvania High School graduate, Sam Abell, is now a photographer for National Geographic.
