NV installs data loggers
October 14, 2015
Little white boxes will be hung around school over the next few months. These white boxes are called Data Loggers.
A Data Logger is a box that tracks date, time of day, when the room is occupied or unoccupied, if the lights are on or off when the room is unoccupied, temperature and humidity, according to Alan Bacho Sylvania Schools Facilities Director.
These units are being installed to track how Sylvania Schools is doing with the Energy Management project that began last year. All of the data is important to track how the project is going, according to Mr. Bacho.
The only real way to track this is to put these devices into the buildings during actual school building usage for a couple of weeks and see how they are functioning under real conditions, according to Mr. Bacho.
Once these Data Loggers are put in Northview they will only be kept here for about two weeks. This is not something that the student body needs to worry about. “In case you see these little white boxes around our school do not be concerned… it’s not the man pulling a 1984,” Principal Steve Swaggerty said.
The goal of this project is to save as much energy as possible through monitoring each school’s energy usage, not watch over students.
