Sylvania Shuffle brings in high numbers despite weather

The Sylvania Shuffle, the first 5K event sponsored by the Sylvania Schools Wellness committee, took place May 31 at 5pm with a Fun Run for children at 4:30pm.

The course started and finished at the Timberstone junior high school track and included the Sylvan Prairie Trail Park, according to Wellness Committee member Sarah Huey. The Kids Fun Run took place entirely on the track and was a half mile.

Those who finished the Shuffle in first, second or third place for their age group were awarded prizes once they reached the finish line. Some prizes that were distributed included gift cards to local businesses and restaurants as well as medals.

The Kids Fun Run also gave out awards, but unlike the Shuffle, ribbons were given out to all participants, no matter how quickly they finished the course.

The run was sponsored by Dave’s Running, The Next Sweet Thing Bakery, The Beirut, Bob Evans Restaurants, and High Point Dog Grooming Salon.

“We had an overwhelming response especially considering this was our first 5K. We had over 135 participants,” Ms. Huey said. “I was very impressed so many people signed up day of since it was raining and about 55 degrees.”
