Getting involved in danceGOLD

Contrary from last year, danceGOLD is happening in the fall this year. On the night of November 14, starting at 6p.m., a six hour long dance marathon raising money for The Victory Center, a local center that provides services to cancer patients and their families during treatment, will unfold in the cafeteria and gym.

This is the second annual danceGOLD event and the goal is to have 200 dancers this year, according the National Honors Society President Starr Jiang.

On October 1, an informational meeting was held in the Media Center during all lunch periods to inform students about the event and educate them on how to get involved. To participate on the night of danceGOLD, students must raise $50. This covers the entrance and students receive a shirt for their respected team.

Another way to get involved is volunteering at the event. This would include checking students in at the beginning of the event, or helping clean up or set up the event.

There are prizes students can receive the higher up in donations they bring in. These include gift cards, spirit wear, and even a Segway scooter. The night will include an abundance of games and activities students can partake in to win points for their team.

All of this was explained at the meeting where students could ask questions to learn more about the upcoming event. At the end of the day, 201 pledge forms were passed out between the three lunch periods, according to NHS Advisor Darla Omey.

“I was excited for the amount of people who showed up to the info meeting and hope that we reach our goal of 200 people,” Mrs. Omey said.

It is not too late to get involved. Stop by the Media Center any time during the day and ask Mrs. Omey for a pledge form. Money and donations are due back on October 20.
