Voting for Sylvania Schools

When you think of the Sylvania School district, some things instantly come to mind. Like all the special education and learning programs, the sports programs, the extra curricular activities, the  art and music programs offered for each student through elementary to high school level, the advanced placement (AP) classes, the pool at Northview, the Harmony Road Show at NV and the Women’s Chorus at Southview.

All of these are very important aspects of the district itself and have been drawing people to live in Sylvania, mainly for the schools, for years, making Sylvania so family friendly.

Since the levy that was passed in 2011, the Sylvania School District has not had a budget increase and funds from the state have only decreased. The district is working with 78 less staff while continuing to offer high standards in education and the same high quality programs. So even with all the offered activities and all the new families that have moved to the area, the district has had no increase in its budget.

So on tomorrow’s ballot, along with voting on the presidential nominees, the community will also be voting on the Sylvania School levy. The levy would give a much needed injection of funds to the district who would otherwise need to cut even deeper.

While that sounds scary, the increase in the budget would allow Sylvania Schools to keep the activities that they hold so dear. The district would be able to keep growing and improving for their students and continue giving them a head start in life, for example the AP classes or the Career Tech courses.

NV would be able to keep it’s pool, and with it, all the swimming sports that are housed there. Sylvania would be able to keep its name of helping children achieve their goals through their education and give them a head start for the rest of their lives.

Don’t let Sylvania’s identity be stolen from the students now and the students of the future. Vote in favor of the levy.
