Starbucks’ Wonderful Winter Drinks

Ally Parker, Co-Editor-In-Chief

Starbucks released their Holiday drinks on November 4, and I finally got the chance to try them out. These Holiday drinks include the Caramel Brulee Latte,  Peppermint Mocha, Chestnut Praline Latte, Toasted White Mocha, and the brand new Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte.

Here are my thoughts and ratings on these drinks. I will be rating these drinks on a scale of ten, with ten being the best.

Starting off with the brand new Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte. I was super excited to try this drink, but I was thoroughly disappointed. It just tasted weird. I didn’t like how the Sugar Cookie syrup tasted. It didn’t taste like a sugar cookie to me, or anything sweet at all for that matter. I would rate this drink a four out of ten. It wasn’t the worst latte I’ve ever had, but I would definitely not buy it ever again. I have heard mixed opinions about this drink though. Some of my friends like it and some of them don’t, so try it out for yourselves!

On a better note, the Toasted White Mocha was a pretty good drink. My normal Starbucks latte is the White Mocha, so it made sense that I liked this one. It tasted exactly like the White Mocha, except it was a little sweeter. It almost had a hint of marshmallow to it. I think the extra sweetness overpowered the coffee taste to the drink. I would rate this drink an eight out of ten.

I had mixed feelings about the Peppermint Mocha. I already don’t like mocha in my coffee drinks. I think it is a weird combination. I love hot chocolate, but mixing espresso and mocha just makes me feel gross. Now with that being said, I did like this drink to a certain extent. It was definitely not my favorite, but it was okay. The peppermint made the drink more tolerable. I would rate this drink a six out of ten.

The Chestnut Praline Latte was an interesting drink. It definitely was nutty but I don’t think the flavor was strong enough. My drink tasted plain and almost just like espresso, milk, and the tiniest hint of nuts and spices. I think it would be a good drink if the flavor was a tad bit stronger. I think I would rate this drink a six out of ten. I wouldn’t necessarily get it again, but it wasn’t the worst thing to drink.

I saved the best drink for last, the Caramel Brulee Latte. This drink lived up to my expectations. It was one of the best drinks I have had in awhile. It was on the sweeter side, which is how I like my drinks, but it wasn’t sickenly sweet. It was a good mix of the syrup and the espresso, one didn’t power over the other one. I would rate this one a ten. It is now my go to holiday drink.
