NHS Induction

The National Honor Society is one of the most prestigious groups of students not only in Northview, but across the country. The organization began in 1921 and students in it have been demonstrating the qualities of leadership, scholarship, service, and character, which are the four pillars of NHS, ever since.

On December 6, eight more seniors were inducted into NV’s chapter of NHS. This group of students include Sarah Essi, Tyler McClain, Dahlia Zack, Samuel Avina, Kayla Kucway, Samantha Brady, Mia Smith, and Rawnag El Sheikh.

“It’s a relief knowing that all of the hard work that I have put in has paid off,” McClain said.

These new members will join the already existing 50 members of NHS. Already this year the organization has held a dance marathon, sold poinsettias, tutored students, and volunteered in several different activities in the community.

To apply for NHS, the students had to write out their involvement in and out of school with extracurriculars and volunteering. They also had to turn in an essay in which they describe what makes them a true leader. Then, the NHS council at NV holistically reviews each application in order to determine if the student would be a good fit for the society. While in NHS, each student must maintain a GPA of 3.6 or higher and show good character in and out of the classroom.

At the induction for the new members were principal Steve Swaggerty, NHS advisor Darla Omey, and NHS officers Shane Banachowski, Mia Restivo, Mark Gilliland, and Matt Bishop.

“It was a great night and I could not be happier for the new members who joined,” Banachowski, who is the president of NHS, said. “NHS is a very prestigious pastime to be involved in and I congratulate all of the new members who joined. I look forward to the rest of the year with them as well as our already-existing members.”
