Students use Achieve 3000 for reading help

Achieve 3000, this year many English classes have been using this website for students to read non-fiction articles at each individual student’s reading level.

There are certain questions followed by a thought question for the students to answer.

“I like it because it gives teachers a great opportunity to give extra credit,” senior Mollie Groth said.

Achieve3000 was funded by a grant last year and only grades 7-8 were able to use them, the grant has been expanded for grades 6-12 this year.

“I do not like it at all because I think it is a waste of time in our classes and we can spend class time a different way,” senior Drew Beattie said.

Every class is supposed to do two articles a month, and they are supposed to help with curriculum, according to English teacher BethAnn Seifert

“I think it helps because it puts everyone at their own reading level. If it is too easy you are not going to increase your reading lexile and if it is to hard you will not increase your reading lexile,” Seifert said.
