Hockey beats SJJ, heads to Frozen Four
March 7, 2014
For the third straight year Northview Hockey is on its way to States.
NV took on St. John’s on February 28 at Tam-O-Shanter. Coming into the game NV had beaten Bowling Green in the Semi Finals 3-0. After the win, NV was forced to play SJJ for the third straight year in the District Finals.
SJJ had a fast start in the game, taking a quick 0-1 lead off a weird goal. Seconds after that, SJJ added another goal making it 0-2 lead, ending the first period with SJJ in the lead, but NV came back fighting.
Halfway into the second period senior Caleb Rau scored making it 1-2. The second period was filled with huge saves from senior goalie David Marsh. The second period ended 1-2 with SJJ still ahead.
Partway into the third period junior Zach Galecki scored a breakaway goal making it 2-2.
Later into the period, senior Jake Koback put the puck in the net off a scrum in front of the goal with 6:39 left in the period, giving NV the lead 3-2. But Koback was not done, 17 seconds later he added to his one goal night, making it two, to let NV have a two goal lead, 4-2.
The Cats won for the third consecutive time against SJJ. The next game for the Frozen Four is March 7 at 1pm at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, against Columbus St. Charles
