Dance team headed to states

Most of the students at Northview have been to one of the boys’ Varsity Basketball games. But do they know what happens during halftime? The Northview Dance Team (NVDT) performs their dances for your entertainment. They have three dances that are Jazz, Hip Hop, and Pom and the team consists of twelve girls, three from each grade.

Other than performing at halftime, the girls work extremely hard to get their dances ready for competitions. Recently the team competed at regionals against other local high school teams. If teams do well at this level, they qualify to compete at the state competition against teams across the state of Ohio. The girls did very well and qualified all three of their dances that they will be taking down to Columbus on March 5.

The Dance Team also competed at another competition on February 13. This was not just any competition – this one was hosted by the Ohio State Dance Team. In the morning, the OSU dancers taught the girls different skills and a routine. Later on that night, the teams then competed against each other to get Platinum, High Gold, Gold, or Silver in each of their dances. Other than determining how well the dance did, they could also place first, second, or third out of all of the teams. The NVDT did very well once again achieving Gold and third in Pom, High Gold and third in Hip Hop, and High Gold and second in Jazz.

Goodluck to the girls as they  prepare for the big state competition coming up in March.
