NHS Officers determined

On April 29, the senior National Honor Society members received their honor cords and inducted the incoming juniors. President Geeta Rao, Vice President Emma Eding, Secretary Claire Goecke, and Treasure Taylor Messinger would soon hand off their duties to the new officers that were to be selected the following week.

On May 1, the new NHS members attended a meeting in the Media Center to make nominations for the new officers. In previous years after a candidate was nominated, another member had to second the nomination and the candidate accept. This year candidates only needed one nomination before accepting or denying.

The following Monday the nominees were required to make speeches as to why their peers should vote them into office. The students had another day to make their final decisions and voting started on Tuesday.

Members would also vote for The Learning Center Committee and danceGOLD Committee, but these candidates did not have to prepare speeches.

To win an officer position, the nominee had to win by a majority. After the first round of voting, each office was voted down to two people. Another round of voting elapsed and again, not all the offices won by a majority. The third set of elections were held over Google Docs and finally winners were determined.

Next year’s NHS officers are President Starr Jiang, Vice President Maddie McGranahan, Secretary Mitch Lyons, and Treasure Parker Stephens.

“Being Vice President will give me a greater opportunity to bring service to my fellow NHS members. Service is my office’s pillar of the four pillars of NHS; leadership, service, character, and scholarship,” McGranahan said.

danceGOLD Committee heads are Kathleen Duwve, Emma Crandall, Michael D’Onofrio, Jake Alzapiedi, Katie Cole, and Pauline Brenner. The TLC committee consists of Tiffany Komon and Matthew Nolan.
