Students create a NV app

Over the summer, while some students were sleeping or on vacation, others were coming to school to learn new skills.

Twenty-five students took part in Spanish teacher John Word and Computer Graphics teacher Tami Blue’s computer programing class, according to Mr. Word.

“All high schoolers and middle schoolers were invited to take part in the class,” Mr. Word said.

The camp took place over five days, July 7-9, 15 and 22, according to Mr. Word.

“We taught the students html, css, and javascript,” Mr. Word said.

The beginners course was focused on programing web apps and creating web pages, according to Mr. Word.

“First they learned the language then we made a web app for students and teachers, competing for a scholarship,” Mr. Word said.

A total of $1000 was given in scholarships, according to Mr. Word.

Senior Cameron McCaskey won $500, sophomore Casey Ruckman won $300, and sophomore Max Fojtik won $200, according to Mr. Word.

Honorable mentions were given to sophomore Nathaniel Schell, freshman Anthony Ellis, freshman Nipun Jayatissa, McCord 8th graders Evangelina Louis, Kaushy Gera, and Kiersten Coventry, according to Mr. Word.

The apps can be found at Sylvanianorthview/apps.html.
